52 Little Hexies...

She's big enough to cover my legs now!

52 hexies and still going strong.  We went away to visit friends last weekend and due to the extreme cold, -52 Celsius (-62 F), I was able to get a lot of work done on Erin.  She is getting so big I just can't believe it!

More adventures to be blogged but will have to get to those later!  Have to run for groceries and finish some laundry!

  Happy Tuesday all!

29 Little Hexies...

So I have been a little MIA lately on the blog sorry!  I had a few posts planned out for this week but never sat down and made them happen, it's just been one of those weeks!  I even dropped a Moody Monday post and haven't updated on Erin in ages.  And the basic reason for this is I haven't been taking pictures of what I'm doing and therefore have little to share with you.  Plus the craziness of life makes writing more difficult.  But I've missed it!  So I thought I would drop in today and share this photo I took a few weeks ago actually and never got around to writing a post for... is the lovely Erin at an un-astounding 29 hexies.  She is bigger than this now but, again, no picture.  But I really love this photo of her, personally, and it is my current desktop background.  I just love her colours!  I really need to get it together, maybe after this weekend I will have more time, though I can't promise anything as these last few weeks of winter are filling up fast and all of a sudden February is nearly over!  Can you believe it?!

I am hoping to take some photos of Aislin and have a Moody Monday #7/#8 combined post for you at the beginning of next week and then tie up some loose ends on a few other posts including a yarn review!  Will you put up with my not-quite-there-ness a teensy bit longer???  Please say you will!

Hoping you are all having nice, fun, busy weeks as well!

Exactly one year ago today those first few stitches came off my favourite little hook, the first hook I ever bought.  The hook is a Red Heart J/10/6.0mm hook and the yarn is unknown as it was borrowed from the friend who one year ago today sat me down and taught me to properly crochet.  I am seriously indebted to her (as is Michaels with all of the yarn I've bought there this past year ha!) and I am seriously in love with this form.  I am so fortunate to have such a great friend to teach me a bit about these beautiful skills that she has so that I can join in on the fun and fill my days with such delight!

A year ago she lent me a ball of yarn and taught me the basics: chaining, slip stitch, single crochet, half double, double, treble and front and back post stitches.  She also taught me to read patterns so that I could teach myself as I go!  She followed a very "teach a man to fish" type method so that I didn't leave her place that day and go home to have no idea what I was doing.  I'm so grateful she never took the yarn out of my hands in frustration to do it for me and let me use her yarn to make this utter mess...

That was an entire ball of yarn used up in just practice stitches of every kind.  Some many rows were undone and redone and several hours were spent helping me get the hang of it.  Slowly I learned more on my own and practiced, practiced, practiced.  To the point where today I can make and plod along figuring out any pattern I desire!  So super grateful that she helped me turn those first few stitches into a skill that has brought and will continue to bring me such joy!

If you don't crochet I would definitely recommend learning!  Whether that be taking a class at your local yarn shop, asking a friend to teach you or learning on your own with books or even YouTube tutorials!  If you do crochet, please share the wealth and pass this awesome skill along to someone else!  I have had the pleasure this year to teach a friend of mine the fundamentals I was taught and now she is working away on a blanket of her own and loves it!  Pay it forward and let's teach a whole new generation to stay true to these basic little crafts that will give them both a fun past time and the boost of self confidence that comes from learning and accomplishing something new!

Wow that post turned out so much differently than I had planned!!  I couldn't help myself though, my fingers just kept running away on me and words just kept flowing onto the screen!  I guess I am way more passionate about this sweet little hobby than I thought!  I think I will go celebrate this anniversary with a little crochet!

Wishing everyone a wonderful week full of fun and learning new things!

#WhatsOnRepeat 8teen

Goo Goo Dolls.  That's #WhatsOnRepeat this week.  Sooooooo much Goo Goo Dolls.  They were a very big favourite of mine growing up in the 90's and through my teens in the early 00's.  In fact around the age of probably 10 I decided for the first time that I had a favourite song and it was "Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls.  It held that high position for probably 6 or 7 years until it was dethroned by "Mr. Jones" of Counting Crows.  Or maybe it was "Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles? Both of those reigned for a brief time afterwards but I cannot remember which order they went in.  But "Iris" will always hold the top spot of first all time favourite song of my life.  Nowadays I could never choose an all time favourite song I'll simply say, "My favourite right now is..."  Funny how it's so easy to commit so absolutely to things in youth but it gets harder to be absolute about anything as an adult.  But maybe I'm getting a little too philosophical all of a sudden...

Back to Goo Goo Dolls.  They were an early favourite in life for me and still a classic in my collection today.  This week I rediscovered how much I loved them and have been addicted.  Favourite songs of theirs would have to be, of course, "Iris", as well as "Name", "Slide", and "Black Balloon".  I could probably list a dozen favourite songs of theirs but those are some notable mentions that I would never skip over if they came up on Shuffle.

I'm continuing on with all sorts of blankety goodness this week.  I'm 11 rows into Mavis, which is the name of my parents' anniversary-gift-in-the-making.  I am using this pattern only I'm doing 100 stitches per row to add length and I will be making it wider as well, probably 70 or 80 rows instead of 60.  So I'm about 1/8th of the way through!  And I've already used up all of one ball of Homespun, this blanket is a yarn hog!  But it's super comfy to work on and very soft so I don't mind.

Then I'm puttering away at Erin as well, this is one of my favourite things to look at right now... pretty.  Love the neutrals together.  I should run, more craftiness of the non-crochet variety happening tonight that I need to get to.  Have a lovely evening!

Moody Monday #6 (A Day Late!)

This week's Moody Monday post brought to you a day late by Picking a Friend Up at the Airport Laaaaaaaaaate at Night.  Always fun!

It was definitely a week of highs and lows, I either was on top of the world or hiding under the rug.  Had some issues with my back this week so treatments put me under the weather a couple of days but I think it was a good week nonetheless!

Monday {34/365} - round 5 of square 11/121
Mood: sore
Colour: charcoal
I think sore sums it up.  Very sore.

Tuesday {35/365} - rounds 1 & 2 of square 12/121
Mood: accomplished & pretty
Colour: purple & fuchsia
Bookwork, bills, groceries, blogging, tidying, so much done!  It might sound vain but I also felt quite pretty, I had a good hair day for once and put on a little lip colour and some jewelery when I went out.  Quite the rarity!

Wednesday {36/365} - rounds 3 & 4 of square 12/121
Mood: busy & fun
Colour: purple & teal
Out and about all day long then some fun with friends in the evening.

Thursday {37/365} - round 5 of square 12/121
Mood: tired
Colour: grey
Perhaps I had a little too much fun with friends the night before, very tired and sluggish this day.

Friday {38/365} - rounds 1 & 2 of square 13/121
Mood: fun & happy
Colour: teal
Busy day, appointments and running around.  Went to the movies and dinner with a friend in the evening.  Lots of laughter, my favourite kind of day.

Saturday {39/365} - rounds 3 & 4 of square 13/121
Mood: content & quiet
Colour: yellow
Lemon Cake-in-a-Mug for breakfast and a laid back day with some crochet and a lot of peaceful quiet.

Sunday {40/365} - round 5 of square 13/121
Mood: tired & sore
Colour: grey
A very nice day but I was just so tired for all of it.  I woke from an afternoon nap to a headache and had back issues all day as well.  Blah.

When it comes to the blanket I am excited to be starting the second row!  And we hit another milestone this week when for the first time two side by side squares had the same colour edging!

It was tough for me to join the two together, I am super OCD about not having similarly coloured squares anywhere near each other.  It is one of the reasons that Anora and Erin take a while because I put a lot of thought into making sure that the colours are balanced.  So two grey edged squares next to one another was a little tricky to look at for a while but I'm getting over it.

Well there's another week gone, already starting our 7th week of the project I can't believe it!  Spring is on it's way soon I hope!
